We’ll be kicking off CANHEIT | HPCS 2016 at the Art Gallery of Alberta, a stunning venue in downtown Edmonton that houses premier international and Canadian art and visual culture. Join us for drinks, opening remarks, and an evening of mingling with delegates and VIPs.

Attendance at the Opening Reception includes full access to the Gallery’s collections, so in addition to some pre-conference networking, you can wander throughout the building and explore the current exhibitions.

Women in HPC Cocktail Event

Join us as Compute Canada launches the first Canadian Chapter of Women in HPC. Celebrate leaders and early career women in advanced research and technical computing fields, and network and connect with leaders in HPC. This special Cocktail Event held before the conference Opening Reception will feature an introduction to Women in HPC and lightning talks from women in a variety of career levels in the Canadian HPC sector. This event welcomes anyone interested in promoting women in HPC!

What is Women in HPC?

Women in HPC (WHPC) is an international network created to encourage women to participate in the HPC community by providing fellowship, education, and support to women and the organizations that employ them. Through collaboration and networking, WHPC strives to bring together women in HPC and technical computing while encouraging women to engage in outreach activities and improve the visibility of inspirational role models. The CANHEIT | HPCS 2016 Awards Gala will be a unique evening with great entertainment and some surprises! Held in the spectacular Shaw Conference Centre, overlooking the city’s beautiful and renowned North Saskatchewan River Valley, the event will showcase Edmonton’s culinary, cultural and entertainment excellence while also celebrating leadership and innovation in Canada’s higher education IT and advanced research computing communities.

The Awards Gala happens to land on June 20 – Summer Solstice. Feel free to dress with the colour scheme of fire and sun – reds, golds, and oranges! We plan to stay up late celebrating the longest night of the year with magical aerial entertainment, duelling pianos, dancing and delicious food. Help us celebrate and bring in a season of new possibilities like a true sun-worshipping Edmontonian!

Research Poster Reception

Research Poster Reception

Join us for an evening showcase of top Canadian research insights and discoveries. We’ve solicited poster submissions from researchers across the country, in a range of disciplines from Pharmaceutical Sciences to Geomatics Engineering. Mingle with fellow delegates and chat with poster authors, who will be on-hand to discuss their work. We’ll wrap up the reception with a short prize giveaway to recognize and award a winning poster.

Our three judges will be viewing and scoring the posters based on their visual design, science, relevance, how well they identified and addressed the problem, research methodology, and final the overall presentation of the results. There are three awards:

  1. Top Poster – $500 and a 5 minute presentation of their work
  2. Runner up – $200
  3. People’s Choice award (voted by attendees via our Guidebook program app) – $100

We want YOU to help judge and cast your vote for your favourite Research Poster. Simply:

  1. Visit the Poster Submission display in the PCL Lounge (located in the northwest of CCIS, on the main floor, outside the large lecture theaters 1-430 and 1-440).
  2. Open the Guidebook CANHEIT-HPCS 2016 Conference app on your mobile or web
  3. Click on “PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD VOTING: Research Poster Session”
  4. Choose your favourite poster (#1 – #20).
  5. Click Submit at the bottom.

Voting will be open from noon Monday June 20 until 5:30 pm Tuesday June 21.

Join your fellow delegates for a casual pint to cap off the day. Hosted at Edmonton’s Craft Beer Market, we’ve booked a private space where you can sample 100+ microbrews and delicious local, seasonal pub fare.
